Chapter 0322

Serenity’s POV

Minutes after hearing Marcus, Maximus, and Lucius discussing a DNA test, Serenity realized they were talking about her test. She had set all of this in motion, naively trusting that giving that cursed sample wouldn’t lead to chaos.

A sharp pain hit her chest as she turned to her mother, whose anguished expression only deepened Serenity’s guilt. She looked over at her father–the man who had care for and protected her, the man she loved deeply–and saw his face twisted in a mix of anger and disappointment. She had no words for it. She had never seen him look at her mother like that before.

In all their years together, her parents had seemed inseparable, their love unshakeable. She’d never seen any signs of violence or even harsh words between them. But today was different. When her mother tried to reach for Marcus’s hand, he pushed her away with a look of disdain. The sight broke something in Serenity.

As the words flew back and forth, Serenity watched in horror as her loving father shoved her mother. Marcus, the man who had always preached love and patience, had pushed Valerie. “What have I done?‘ she thought, her mind spiraling.

From the corner of her eye, Serenity noticed her mother pleading for them to leave. But her instincts rebelled. She didn’t want to leave. She wanted answers. She wasn’t a child to be shielded from the truth anymore. Why couldn’t they see that?
