Chapter 0391

Maximus managed to convince Alden to take him to see what remained of Alexia. A week had passed since the truth had come to light, and neither Maximus nor Marcus had visited the Complex, leaving Matthew Rice in charge once again. Meanwhile, Marcus and Valerie were taking some much–needed time to focus on their relationship after a whirlwind of stressful revelations that had shaken the recently united Bartz family.

Maximus rode alongside Alden. News of Alexia’s death had yet to spread. Her parents had already spoken with Maximus, but he resisted the idea of announcing anything until he fully understood his wife’s condition. He recognized that she deserved everything that had happened to her–and perhaps worse–for all the harm she had caused to the Palmer family and Mary Preston.

“Is she here?” Maximus asked hesitantly.

“Uncle, where else did you think she’d be?” Alden replied with thinly veiled irony.

“I don’t know,” Maximus admitted, his doubt evident.

“Don’t think I’m an animal, and I’m no murderer like her. I’ve told you this once, maybe more I only want her to live,” Alden said, his frustration showing.

“I still don’t understand you,” Maximus replied, his nerves mounting.

“Don’t worry about it, Uncle. Only I need to understand myself.”

“How far do you plan to take this?”

“As far as necessary. My father, my mother, Mary, and my sister–who, by the way, is your daughter–all suffered because of her and her grandfather. Sooner or later, karma catches up. If I have to be the one to deliver it, I have no problem doing so.”
