Chapter 0498

[Marcus Bartz]

Marcus froze the moment he saw Peter at the same hospital. It felt as though fate itself was going out of its way to ensure Valerie and Peter would cross paths again. He knew it was only a matter of time before they inevitably met, but the real question wasn’t when–it was how his wife would react.

Throughout their marriage, nothing had ever truly shaken their relationship–until they moved to Valentia. For a fleeting moment, Marcus had felt insecure when Valerie saw Maximus again. However, she had quickly dispelled his doubts, and he had to admit that their little ones were a result of those reassurances.

Now, though, things were different. If Valerie and Peter met again, Marcus had no idea how his wife would respond. The two of them had been deeply in love once, but she had built a new life. She was married now, with children and two more on the way.

These thoughts stole Marcus’s peace. He vividly recalled his jealousy when Peter’s brother had come into the picture. It had almost torn their marriage apart. How would he handle this situation, knowing it was bound to happen?

It was clear Peter was trying to rebuild his own life and stay out of the way. He had even confided in Marcus about his relationship with his son’s teacher a woman Marcus had met and had to admit was stunning. But Peter wasn’t the issue; Marcus trusted him. It was Valerie he worried about, especially with her carrying their unborn children–innocent lives caught in the middle of it all.
