Chapter 0527

Valerie got out of bed, woken by the insistent hunger of her babies. Her head felt like a tangled mess. She was dizzy, confused, unable to make sense of what was happening. How had her marriage ended up hanging by a thread? And why did she keep seeing Peter?

Years ago, she had accepted that he was gone. She had never seen his body, but from that horrible night onward, she knew he was dead. She knew she shouldn’t torment herself like this, but the strange sensation had taken hold of her. It was suffocating, unrelenting. Maybe she shouldn’t have said anything, but if she couldn’t tell Marcus, who else could she confide in? Now, she realized it had been a mistake–he hadn’t taken it well.
