1 say goodbye with affection,

Celeste Mason]

She folded the letter and placed it on the bedside table. After calling a taxi, she carefully left the house, carrying Spike in his carrier. The taxi would take her to the train station, where she faced a journey of over nine hours, followed by another transfer to reach Willowcombe.

When she had been married to Adam, they hadn’t had much, but together they had built a charming little house- just enough to live comfortably. Celeste had been forced to leave it when she mortgaged it to cover her husband’s hospital bills. After moving in with Peter, he had surprised her by returning the house’s title to her. That small act was one of the few things that, even in her pain, still brought a smile to her face.

[A Month and a Half Later]

An elegant black Maserati rolled through the gates of the mansion. Peter stepped out of the car, carrying a suitcase, only to be met with an unexpected sight–the mansion was dark. Normally, the study and master bedroom were illuminated, giving the house a warm and lived–in feel. His surprise grew when it was Brock, the butler, who greeted him at the door instead of Celeste.

“Sir, you look tired. You should take a bath and rest. I’ll ask the cook to prepare dinner and have it brought to your room,” Brock said respectfully.
