Chapter 0631

Maximus returned home after a long day, his thoughts weighed down by the countless decisions he had to make. As he walked through the house, he noticed his younger children quietly doing their homework at the dining table. Laura, as always, had stepped in to keep them on task. When he found her resting in her bedroom, he approached her bed, his voice gentle.

“My dear, how are you? How’s the baby doing?” he asked, sitting beside her.

“Everything’s fine, Dad,” Laura replied, her voice drowsy. I was just a little tired today. I missed Serenity, though.”

“Speaking of Serenity, where is she?” Maximus asked, his brow furrowing.

“She’s out with Alden. They went to have dinner since they didn’t get a chance to eat earlier.”

“Oh, I see. As long as she’s with Alden, I can rest easy.”

“He said he’d bring her home after dinner… Oh, by the way, there’s an older woman waiting for you in your study. She’s been there for a couple of hours. I told her she could come back tomorrow, but she insisted on waiting- Someone brought her coffee and cookies.”

“Did she say who she is? And why did you leave her in my study?” Maximus asked, curious.
