Serenity had decided to spend the six days leading up to her wedding at her parents‘ house. She felt like she needed it—she knew they would be leaving after the wedding, so without hesitation, she had spoken to Alden about it.

Her now–husband understood completely. And although Marcus still intimidated him a little, Alden promised to visit her every day.

Two days before the wedding, however, Marcus called him and asked him not to come that day. He wanted to spend the day alone with Serenity–just father and daughter. Alden understood and agreed.

“Dad, where are we going?” Serenity asked, intrigued.

“It’s a surprise! Come on, don’t be so impatient. I’m already leaving your mother alone with her crazy friends, and that’s more than enough,” Marcus said with a playful smirk.

These past few days, he had seen his wife smile in ways she only did when she was with her friends. Even though Aurora and Regina had their differences, they were both equally entertaining. Each had their own stories, their own lives, and their own special memories with Valerie.

The atmosphere in their home felt completely different from just a year ago. The once–elegant and somewhat quiet house was now full of life–from the cries of the twins to the shouts of John and Ethan, who never left each other’s side while playing, to the loud laughter of Valerie and her group of friends. And, of course, there were Camille’s constant scoldings. Marcus couldn’t have been more satisfied.

Camille’s daughters had also taken advantage of their stay to explore the city. They regretted not having visited sooner, but now, little by little, they were getting to know the place—and the local guys, who had stolen more than a few sighs from them. They were already promising to return.
