Chapter 1032

The next morning, Laura had come to a clear conclusion–she didn’t want her daughter, Adele, to go through what Paul was about to endure.

She searched through her things until she found a notebook where she still kept the contact details Adrian had written down for her once. Why had she kept them all this time? She didn’t even know the answer to that herself.

Once she found what she was looking for, she grabbed her phone and dialed the number. Her stomach twisted, a wave of strange emotions washing over her. She tried to suppress them.

She listened as the call tried to connect, but it was almost as if fate itself was telling her not to do this–the call went unanswered.

Laura let out a sigh and tossed her phone onto the dresser. I was 5:40 AM. Of course. Who calls at this hour, Laura? She scolded herself mentally. But the truth was, she had barely slept all night, and the first thing she did when she opened her eyes was call Adrian.

She was heading back to bed to cuddle up with Adele when she suddenly heard the vibrating sound of her phone against the wooden dresser.

A shiver ran down her spine. Just as she had thought–no one calls at this hour unless they’re returning a call.

She walked toward her phone, quickening her pace when she saw Adele stir. Picking up the phone, her eyes widened when she saw who was calling back.

For a few seconds, she just stared at the screen, debating whether to answer. But by the time she made up her mind, the call had already ended.

“Hmm… I guess fate says we’re not meant to talk,” Laura muttered, shrugging as she climbed back into bed with her phone still in hand.

She lay down, and as if sensing her mother’s presence, Adele turned toward her. Laura wrapped her arms around her daughter, kissing her forehead and burying her nose in her little head. The intoxicating scent of her baby filled her with peace.

Far from there, in the Brown family home, Adrian stood on the balcony of his study. Ever since he had seen his daughter–and laid eyes on Laura Palmer again–things at home had not been going well.

How could they be, when guilt and regret haunted him? The Adrian Laura had known a little over a year ago was nothing like the man he was now.
