Alex arrived swiftly. His shoulders were drenched from the downpour, making the severity of the weather clear.

Jessica greeted him with a smile and a wave. “Have you eaten? If not, please join us.”

Glancing down, Alex’s eyes unintentionally swept across Candice. She was silently observing the rain through the window, her expression unreadable.
