Two days later.

The plan for the day was to meet the couple who wanted to adopt Neal, but one of Hendrix's men suddenly came forward and informed us that Suanne had attempted to take her own life and was close to dying. We had to reschedule the meeting for another time.

When we arrived at the basement, we saw the wound on Suanne's head which had been heavily bandaged. She was wrapped in thick gauze, but there was still blood leaking out.

She no longer looked as dignified as she used to be with her messy hair draped over her shoulders. She was laid on the floor like a dying beggar, the top half of her body was leaning against the wall. Nathan was still bound to the chair. There was a tube hanging above his face. The water was dripping much faster now. The water droplets were hitting his face so often that he couldn't keep his eyes open. Suanne struggled to open her eyes. The moment she saw us, she dragged her lower body forward and pounced at us.

I was caught off guard by her sudden movement and staggered backwards. Hendrix stepped forward and stood in front of me. Suanne grabbed his calves and pleaded. "Hendrix, my son. Please, let me drink some water. I haven't had water for days. Have pity on your poor mother..."

Her unkempt appearance and inaudible murmurings were worse than a beggar.

The memory of my first meeting with Suanne flashed across my mind. She had been a real beauty with a youthful face that was known to cause others to stare in awe.
