As we got closer to the end of the year, the streets of the capital were decorated with lanterns and streamers. The whole place was brimming with festivity.

Only the hospital was still purely white from it's entrance to every corner of the building. It was gloomy and depressing with the smell of disinfectant.

Everything was ready. After arriving at the hospital, I asked the nurse for a wheelchair and pushed it towards Irvin's ward.

I saw from the distance that Shirley was standing by the door, monitoring the situation in the ward through a glass window. She had a rare smile on her face and her pale face looked gentle.

Realizing that I was here, she glanced sideways and turned around. Her eyes were fixed on the skinny man in the ward. "He's in good spirits today."

"Yeah?" I pursed my lips and smiled, hoping that there would be some good news. "Look, isn't everything better now? Had something happened to you that day, would you have been able to see this?" She lowered her eyes and didn't say anything, but the gloom she used to give off had been dispelled.

I pressed down on the door handle and paused. I then turned around and asked, "Hey, I plan to take Irvin out to get some sun. You want to join us?"

"No, thanks. I mean, this is his chance to be with you alone. He won't want me around."
