Once Tad had left, Emyr wheeled himself into the bathroom as he usually did. The maid facing away from him was checking the water’s temperature. He spoke curtly, “Leave.”

The maid stood and turned around at a slow pace.

“Mr. Emyr, it’s not safe for someone with your condition to be alone. Let me assist you.”

When he saw Charmaine’s smile drawing near, Emyr raised an eyebrow, a brief flash of surprise crossing his face.

The brief expression vanished so quickly that even Emyr might not have realized it.

He quickly replaced it with a look of disdain, “What is it now, Charmaine?”

Charmaine approached the wheelchair with a playful gleam in her eyes.

She slightly leaned in and teased, “Didn’t you ask me to look after you, so here I am, ready to take care of you…

Emyr froze for a moment, his attention caught by a glimpse of what lay inside Charmaine’s neckline from this angle.

In that brief lapse of focus, Charmaine had already undone two buttons of his shirt.

His face shifted in an instant, and he tightened his grip on Charmaine’s delicate wrist, as though a slight squeeze could snap it.

But in the blink of an eye, Charmaine swiftly twisted her hand by taking control of his, and forcefully slammed his arm onto the wheelchair’s armrest.

The sharp sound of the impact echoed throughout the bathroom.

For a moment, they both froze; their eyes locked in mutual surprise.
