Chapter 143 Burning Scar

“You know how our principal operates. If our parents don’t show up for the parent–teacher meeting, he’ll make a public announcement the next day. I remember Charmaine being called out like that for three whole years.

As he spoke, something else came to mind.

“Oh, and she’s really pretty, so she attracted a lot of attention at school. She was close to the school hunk. Daniel, and plenty of girls who had a crush on him gave her a hard time behind her back. Every time something happened, their parents would storm into the office, but no one ever showed up for Charmaine. I passed by the office a few times and saw our homeroom teacher berating her, jabbing her forehead like she was worthless… Tsk, back then, I thought maybe her family favored boys over girls. But now that I think about it, those parents who raised the wrong daughter are downright heartless. If Charmaine’s been treated like this for so long, they must be to blame too.”

Milo listened, and every word felt like a burning scar searing into his heart.

Bennett and Sophie are monsters!

His eyes darkened to the extreme.

They had known all along that Charmaine wasn’t their daughter and that Leah was their biological child.

Leah had been living a wonderful life with the Nelsons, pampered by the whole family–Bennett surely knew that too.

Yet, despite knowing they’d taken the wrong daughter, they never treated Charmaine like a human being.

All these years, Leah had never suffered even the slightest grievance, but Charmaine… her experience had been entirely different.

If they had just protected Charmaine a little, and shown her even a shred of kindness, she wouldn’t have been caught up in endless rumors. She wouldn’t have been misunderstood as a bad person, nor seen as selfish, greedy, and constantly vying for Leah’s place.
