Leah’s brow furrowed. “What are you getting at? Just be direct with me.”

Bennett didn’t hesitate. “You’ve seen the mess we’re in. The company’s gone under, our assets are gone, and we’re struggling to keep up. I’ve been thinking a lot about it lately. So here’s what I propose: Use the Nelsons‘ connections or find a way to get some money from the company to help me get back on my feet.”

Leah felt a wave of disgust at Bennett’s blatant request but quickly dismissed his suggestion. “Are you out of your mind? There’s no way I’m involving myself with the Nelsons, and I certainly don’t have any money to give you.”

“Leah!” Bennett’s tone grew sharp. “Don’t you see? The truth is clear–Charmaine is indirectly responsible for Milo’s death, and yet, no one’s done anything about it. If it were anyone else, would they just let it go like this? No matter what they say, they’re still family!”

He leaned in closer. “This time it’s Milo, but who’s next? If the Nelsons start to get suspicious and uncover something, they’ll turn on you without a second thought. Don’t let their fake kindness fool you. If you want peace in your life, you need to take control, get the power, and hold the money, you get me?”

Leah pressed her lips tight, remaining silent. Bennett, noticing her hesitation, didn’t push further. “Just think about it. Your mom and I won’t hurt you. We don’t want to be a burden. Once we’re back on our feet, we can move abroad and live a life of ease. It’ll be better than anything else.”

Leah walked out of the tea room and returned to the Nelsons‘ home. As soon as she stepped inside, she overheard Olympia speaking to Jonah in the living room.

Olympia’s voice trembled. “Have you heard anything about your brother?”

Jonah responded with a deep, determined tone. “Mom, I won’t stop looking. I’ll keep searching for Milo
