Chapter 480

Isadora heard a sound and slowly opened her eyes.

She lifted her head, her amber eyes blinking in confusion at the man suddenly standing in the doorway.

Their gazes collided in the golden hush of evening; for a moment, neither said a word.

Outside, dusk had painted the sky in soft amber, its light spilling through the balcony and bathing the room in a warm, gilded glow.

Victor strode forward, stopping by the couch. He knelt on one knee and studied her, his eyes scanning her face. Then, without another word, he reached out and pulled her tightly into his arms.

God only knew how frantic he'd been when she vanished.

And the flood of emotion that crashed over him the moment he saw her message -he could barely describe it.

As Victor wrapped her in his embrace, Isadora instinctively pressed her hand against his chest, keeping a small but definite distance between them.

He felt her hesitation and narrowed his dark eyes, searching her face. "What's wrong?" he asked quietly.

Isadora didn't answer right away.

She knew that photo had been sent with malicious intent-someone had deliberately used it to bait her.

She couldn't let herself fall for it, couldn't risk Victor being threatened because of her.
