Geoffrey didn’t answer. For him, getting anything was as easy as snapping his fingers.
Maureen didn’t press further. She settled onto the warm sofa, gazing at the familiar surroundings with nothing but nostalgia in her eyes.

Maureen realized he’d misunderstood.
For someone who’d never been loved by her mother growing up, she actually hated this place.

Without waiting for Geoffrey’s response, she threw on her coat and walked out.
Outside was bitterly cold.
Geoffrey didn’t stop her from leaving, just ordered someone to follow her with strict instructions: she wasn’t to escape.
Maureen had no intention of running. She was simply waiting to face Geoffrey in court.
