Chapter 797

"We're not sure, but you can check at the hospital."

I had come all this way only to witness the desolate aftermath of the fire at St.

Thomas Church. Other than that, I had nothing to show for my efforts. Well, except for the fact that I knew Conrad was unharmed.

I tried calling him again, but there was still no answer. Could he have been injured?

I drove over to the nearby hospital. The place was a flurry of activity, with nurses and doctors rushing around. Thanks to the emergency protocol in place for fire victims, I quickly found the treatment area for those injured. And there he was, Conrad.

His clothes were smudged with soot, and he seemed to be everywhere at once, helping where he could. He didn't even notice me. This was a side of Conrad I had never seen before. Gone was the aloof, untouchable man of prestige and pride. Here was just a regular man, doing extraordinary things.

If I hadn't seen it with my own eyes, I wouldn't have believed he had such a down- to-earth, approachable side.

But I was too worried about Mrs. Clark to linger on that thought. I hurried over to him. "Conrad."

He looked surprised. "Felicia, what are you doing here?"

"I saw the news and tried calling you, but you didn't pick up. I went to St. Thomas Church..." I trailed off, glancing at the injured.
