Chapter 148 Audrey

I woke to the warm sensation of arms around me, holding me gently beneath the covers. A soft smile touched my face as, slowly but surely, the events of last night-and this morning-slowly returned. A party. A fall. A death. And then.. My mate.

My eyes cracked open, and there he was. I couldn't help but let out the tiniest sigh of relief at the sight of him, as if he somehow would have disappeared into thin air in the middle of the night. But he was still here, holding me.

And he was already awake-watching me sleep.

"Isn't it a bit creepy to watch a girl sleep?" I purred, nuzzling into his chest and nipping good-naturedly at his skin.

Edwin let out a deep rumble of a chuckle, one that was made even deeper from sleep. It hit me then that I hadn't spent a full night with him before; one of us had always left before the other had awoken, or we had had to return to our own residences. when we were hiding out in that basement room.

I allowed myself a few long moments to savor that feeling of waking up in his arms. And so, it seemed, did he. He tugged me a little closer and rolled onto his back, tucking me firmly against his chest. I laid there contentedly, swirling lazy circles in his chest hair with my index finger.

Then I let my finger trail lower. Down across the dips and peaks of his abdomen, and then down....

He shivered and let out a small sound of pleasure. But then he caught my wrist before I could go further, brought my hand back up, and pressed kisses to each of my fingers.

"Plenty of time for that," he murmured between kisses,

I propped myself up on one elbow, watching as he kissed my hand. He was right; we did have plenty of time. A lifetime, in fact. And for now, I was content just lazing around with him on a warm and sunny Sunday afternoon, basking in the afterglow of each other.

"What do you want to do today?" he asked when he saw me looking out the window at the sun-flecked street below. Town was already bustling by now.

I bit my lip, considering. "Don't you have work to do?"

"I know I'm busy, but I'm not that busy," he teased. "It's Sunday. And besides, I almost lost you last night. I want to spend this long weekend with my mate." Another kiss, this time to the inside of my wrist, right on my pulse point.
