Chapter 73

“We’re here,” Lewis only spoke after bringing the car to a full stop.

Jimmy opened his drowsy eyes and glanced around. “That fast?”

Lewis replied curtly, “There’s no traffic at night.”

Jimmy pushed the door open to get out, and then turned to Lewis. “Get out and walk me upstairs.”

Lewis, acting good–natured, stepped out and escorted Jimmy up. “Alright, I’ll be heading off now.”

“Stop right there,” Jimmy called out as he opened the door. “Come in. I have something to say to you.”

Lewis checked the time–it was already past 3 AM. “It’s too late. You should rest. Whatever it is, you can say it another time.”

“What? Chickening out?” Jimmy raised an eyebrow, looking smug.

“I’m just thinking about your health,” Lewis replied, not wanting to get tangled up with Jimmy. He knew that Jimmy would just keep dragging things out endlessly.

“Oh, I’m in great health. I can wait until the day you two get divorced,” Jimmy sneered. “Get in here.”

Lewis raised an eyebrow slightly. He knew Jimmy wouldn’t call him up for anything good. He had planned to avoid it, but Jimmy wasn’t letting go. So, he thought he might as well face Jimmy head–on.

Jimmy sat down on the living room sofa, and Lewis took the seat to his left.

“Pour me a glass of water. I’m thirsty,” Jimmy ordered.

Lewis didn’t argue with him. He picked up the kettle, poured a glass, and set it down in front of Jimmy. “Enjoy.”

Jimmy took a big gulp. “Back when Ryan was driving us and Doris around, his cars were all worth millions. And now, Doris’s stuck riding in your crappy car. I don’t know what spell you put on her. You didn’t bewitch my Doris, did you?”

Jimmy looked at Lewis with contempt, thinking he must have used some underhanded trick.
