Chapter 434: Angel's only hope

"... I'll have to make you."

Silence fell over the kitchen as neither spoke for a moment. Penny carefully stretched her fingers toward the cabinets beneath the counter, her palm resting on the edge of the sink. With her back facing Mark, she was careful not to alert him.

'He's different from the others I've encountered,' she thought, realizing this man wouldn't let her go unless he was dead. 'I've met so many like him.'

Penny had bumped against death countless times, and she sensed that same aura from Mark. She knew he would kill her - this fight wouldn't end with a simple injury.

The feeling was mutual for Mark.

Assessing her small frame, it was hard to believe that someone like her had caused so much damage to his men. Although Renny seemed to side with her for reasons he couldn't comprehend, Mark had to give her credit - none of the men she fought were ordinary bodyguards or fighters.

'She's no ordinary person,' he thought, holding his breath, ready to strike if he sensed any movement from her. 'I can't let my guard down.'

As the thought crossed his mind, every instinct in his body screamed a warning. Mark quickly raised his pistol and fired, only to hear a clang as the bullet struck a knife flying in his direction. Surprised by her swift reaction, his breath caught as he saw her slide under the counter.

BANG! BANG!

Two more shots rang out, aimed to stop her rather than kill her. He wasn't trying to end her life — yet. But her movements were too quick, forcing Mark to fall back. She kicked a stool toward him, and he had to kick it away.

This brief diversion gave her enough time to move under the table, flipping it to use as a shield.
