Chapter 695: Nothing is sometimes something

Atlas and Chairman Bennet sat down on a set of couches, with the chairman on the one-seater while Atlas occupied the long sofa. Chairman Bennet rocked his head, squinting at his grandson.

"I heard what you did during the emergency board meeting," said the chairman, his tone uncertain. "Good work."

Atlas nodded, a bit surprised by that.

"Atlas," Chairman Bennet called solemnly. "I understand that you want to believe in your assistant-"

"I don't just want to believe it, Chairman," Atlas interrupted, cutting off his grandfather as it seemed the latter was trying to talk him out of the whole Allen situation. "I believe it. I believe in him."

Chairman Bennet studied the look in Atlas's eyes, almost laughing at the way Atlas said his words. The shine of resolve in his eyes reminded him of his son. Surely, Charles had a little bit of him in his sons.

"I'm not trying to talk you out of it," Chairman Bennet clarified. "Relax, Atlas. You don't have to look at me as if I am your enemy."

Was he not?

Atlas pressed his lips tighter, tempted to call his grandfather out. After all, this old man had always antagonized Atlas from the moment he sat down on that board. If not for a single card-that golden invitation-would this man leave him alone?

It took this man to stop his antics because of one golden card.

Just a card.

The more Atlas thought about it, the more his heart burned with fury. Surely, what happened to Allen affected him greatly.

Chairman Bennet let out a deep exhale. "I approve of your decision to not turn your back on your people."

"Are you saying that because you know you won't change my mind?"

saying it because it's what I taught your father, and he taught it to you," Chairman Bennet stressed. "You don't turn your back on your own people. It's what the Bennets do.
