Chapter 1138: A calm menace

[Bonfire]

Nina and Finn walked back to the bonfire, holding hands. The smiles on their faces were peaceful, chuckling as they headed back. They had just come back after a short walk by the beach, but when they returned, all they saw was Allen.

"Uh, Sir Allen?" Nina called, confused. "What are you doing here all alone? Where's everyone?"

Allen, who was trying to enjoy his drink with a frown, looked up at the couple. "I don't know?" he shrugged. "I just bought a drink, and when I came back, everyone was gone! Good thing you two showed up!"

"Everyone's gone...?" Nina furrowed her brows and instinctively looked up at Finn. The latter shrugged, wordlessly saying he couldn't possibly know.

Allen let out a deep exhale, chugging down his beer. Having Nina and Finn around might make him feel better... or not. Because now that the couple was here, he just had to bitterly avoid their sweet interaction.

"That's... weird," Nina mumbled as she slowly sat down in their previous spot. "Did they just decide to take a walk or hit the pub?"

Finn kept his lips pressed into a thin line, gazing at the sulking Allen and then his confused fiancée. He offered Nina a smile, saying, "They probably just decided to buy something and will come back in a bit."

"Well... I guess you're right."

Yet, although Nina didn't seem to give it much thought, Finn couldn't help but gaze at where Penny, Atlas, and Zoren had been seated earlier.

'Something's telling me that... something's up.'
