Charles' concern and confession had left Butler Jen restless-especially since Haines hadn't come home last night, and Allison had already begun noticing her husband's somberness.

Butler Jen could've told Allison everything, but he knew Charles—and even Haines-would rather keep it from her. Charles had always tried to protect his wife from his past, knowing it would only hurt her and affect her in ways he didn't want to imagine. Haines was the same.
