Chapter 1703: Was he the reason this man had died?

[Continuation of Zoren's Memory]

The sky was gray, and the clouds were thick. Rain poured onto the ground without restraint, drenching everything it could.

Water dripped from the umbrellas as countless were held up to protect those beneath them. The air was solemn as the mass continued under the pouring rain, all eyes on the priest standing behind the coffin.

The priest's voice harmonized with the rain, along with a few quiet sobs from the crowd.

Zoren stood under an umbrella, staring emotionlessly at the priest.

"For the family," the priest paused, nodding at the grieving family. "Please say your farewell."

The muffled cries that followed grew louder as some people moved closer to the coffin.

A woman, in her sixties, wept as she hugged the coffin. The umbrella that had been protecting her from the rain toppled over, with some of her children holding her shoulders. Even then, her adult children cried behind their sunglasses.

Some of the attendees quietly wiped their eyes at the scene. Others turned away to hide their tears. A few, like Zoren, remained stoic.

It was as if the cries, the weight of grief, and the loss were nothing to him.

He just stared at the grieving family before shifting his eyes to the portrait being held on the side of the coffin.

It was the man he had called not long ago.

The man whom he had asked to pick up Penny's case.

But on the day this man was going to take over the case, he tragically had a heart attack.

A heart attack.

With his age and unhealthy lifestyle, this man should've seen it coming. He smoked a lot, ate recklessly without regard for his aging body, and drank regularly. Had it not been for the fact that he was the best of the best lawyers in Anteca, this man would be just any guy who lived recklessly.

'Is it really just a coincidence?' Zoren wondered to himself, staring at the portrait. 'Did you really drive yourself to your own death or... did I do it?'
