Chapter 10
On the top floor of Bateson Group at 7.00PM, the lights in the president’s office were still turned on. Trevor was working overtime; his gaze was fixated on the computer and his lean figure was dressed in a tailor-made suit while the tight white shirt on his muscular body made him look especially seductive. He had always been proud of his self-control and discipline, but all of that had been disrupted after he bumped into Emma in Wesley’s office earlier that day. He could not seem to get her off his mind after that encounter. In the past, Emma had fallen head over heels for him, as in everything that she did was all for him. But now… When he thought about the way she had completely ignored him that afternoon, he felt an oddly heavy feeling in his chest. These complicated emotions affected his productivity during his working hours, so he had no choice but to work overtime to complete his tasks.
The ringtone of his phone filled the silence in the air. It was a call from Zachary Manson, his good friend, work partner, and a well-known playboy in the whole of Jonestown. Trevor, however, was not in the mood to pick up the call as he was almost certain that Zachary was asking him out for drinks. Work had always been Trevor’s priority, so he was not interested in going out for a party when he had yet to complete his tasks. Still, Zachary continued to call him until he finally gave in and picked up the call. “Hey, Trevor. Guess who I saw!” Zachary gushed the moment he picked up. “Who?” Trevor did not sound enthusiastic at all. He was too troubled to listen to Zachary talk about one of his women. “Emma Yates! Your ex-wife!” Zachary shouted into his ear. Trevor frowned for a moment before he gritted his teeth in frustration. It would have been enough for Zachary to say Emma’s name, but he did not have to mention the part about her being his ex-wife! Those words themselves burned his ears whenever he heard them. “Is she back in the country? Didn’t you say that she went abroad?” a puzzled Zachary asked. Back then, Emma had offered to get a divorce with Trevor without taking a single penny from him, which then came as a shock to Zachary and the rest of Trevor’s friends. After that, some of them asked around about her and discovered that she had left for another country on the day of the divorce itself.
They did not ask about the reason why she left the country, instead, they had only asked about her whereabouts as they were concerned for Trevor. They were worried that Emma had made a rash decision and would come back to pester their friend after she had looked back and regretted her actions. However, Trevor was not in the mood to talk to Zachary about Emma, so he responded with a flat tone. “Yeah.” Zachary was a sharp man, so he immediately realized what was going on when he heard Trevor’s response. “Did you guys meet each other already? How was it? She’s not pestering you, is she?” Zachary bombarded the other man with questions. “No.” Zachary’s questions made Trevor feel more frustrated than ever and he was tempted to end the call right after answering Zachary. “That’s good.” He let out a sigh of relief before he continued to grumble, “Well, she has been out and about. I caught her drinking and eating with a young man. She looked like she is enjoying her life.” “Young man?” Trevor could not stop his volume from inflating.
“Yeah. The guy looks like one of the members of a trending idol group. His name is Adam Gilbert, if I’m not mistaken. He’s probably in his early twenties. That’s considered young, isn’t it?” “Where are you having dinner?” Trevor asked in a cold voice. Zachary told him the location and paused for a moment before questioning him again, “You’re not planning to come here, are you?” Trevor ended the call before Zachary got to the end of the sentence. While still clutching his phone, Zachary could not help but let excitement take over his face. I can’t believe this. Is Trevor about to rush over after hearing that Emma is having a meal with a young guy?
