Chapter 12
Trevor widened his eyes as he looked at the waitress. “Did she say she’s allergic to beef?” “Yes,” the waitress said with a nod. Trevor no longer responded after that—he merely lowered his gaze to fiddle around with the lighter in his fingers. There wasn’t a hint of emotion in his eyes. Zachary got the waitress to send the beef steak out before he pulled out a cigarette and leaned close to Trevor for a light. “Trevor, you’ve been married to this woman for three years. Don’t you know about her allergies?” At that point, someone else interrupted their conversation. “Allergies can be a pretty big deal sometimes, you know. It might just be rashes if we’re talking about mild allergies, but it could be life-threatening if we’re talking about severe allergies.” The person’s words made Trevor freeze for a moment. Zachary shot an annoyed look in the person’s direction.
Doesn’t he know how to keep his mouth shut? Why is he talking about life-threatening allergies? Isn’t he just making Trevor feel worse?! Indeed, Trevor felt more frustrated than before. He recalled the past three years that he had spent with Emma. Whenever they had meals at home, there was bound to be one dish that had beef in it, as Trevor was a huge fan of beef. However, he had never been aware of the fact that Emma was allergic to beef. She had never brought it up, and he had never cared enough to ask. … Adam was a rising star in the scene, and his recent series with Susanna was being broadcasted all over the nation. Hence, Emma told him to make a move after their meal, while she stayed behind in the room for a while more before leaving. If anyone caught her having dinner with a famous celebrity, their names would show up on the trending topics almost immediately. Emma had just stepped out of the restaurant when she saw Trevor and Zachary standing by the side of the road. Truth be told, she wasn’t looking around for them—they were simply too eye-catching because of their height and their strong, charismatic aura. Trevor was dressed in white dress shirt and black slacks. He had an icy and distant look on his face, which made him seem especially unapproachable. Zachary, on the other hand, was dressed in a patterned black shirt. He seemed a little more graceful and carefree than the other man. Both of them were clearly waiting for their drivers to arrive.
They each had a cigarette between their fingers, and they were taking puffs on it while waiting for their rides. Emma immediately turned away to walk to the other side when she saw them. She was trying her best to avoid them. However, she hadn’t expected Zachary to stop her. “Hey, Emma!” In the end, she had no choice but to stop in her tracks and respond to him. “Hello, President Manson.” Emma wasn’t in the mood to talk to him, as she wasn’t particularly interested in interacting with anyone who was related to Trevor. However, Zachary was a relatively influential and powerful man in the whole of Jonestown, so she couldn’t just ignore him without showing some respect. That was the power of fame and wealth.
Zachary walked over to her while beaming. “Are you heading home? I can drop you back,” he offered. Upon hearing that, Emma rejected his offer politely. “It’s fine. My ride is coming in a bit.” Before Zachary could say anything else, Trevor, who had edged closer to them, spoke. “Did you say you’re not acquainted with me?” He shot Emma an angry glare. Emma looked up to give him a courteous yet distant smile. “Isn’t that the truth?” He gave her a cold smirk. “You seem really open-minded after traveling overseas, huh? Are you saying that we aren’t acquainted even though we’ve been married for three years?” Emma’s smirk was colder than his. “You don’t even know about my beef allergies even though you were married to me. Do you think we’re close?” she asked without any hesitation. Her words made Trevor choke for a moment. As his gaze darkened, Emma simply clenched her fists and turned around to leave without a backward glance.
