Chapter 83
She hung up, but she was fuming. Simon and Steven pushed her to the edge of a cliff. and the netizens were cyber bullying her. She finally cut all the tethers she had with them. She did not care anymore. They never cared for her anyway, and all they had been doing was use her. She hung up and calmed down, then she went to the hospital to get the result. She hailed a ride and used the elevator to get to Kaleb‘s office.
The hospital was always packed. Emma was standing quietly in the corner, but then the woman beside her kept staring. “She looks familiar,” she muttered to her friend.
Another woman got closer and looked at Emma, then she shouted, “Hey, she‘s the ingrate who refuses to provide for her father!”
“Oh yeah!”
The discussion got everyone in the elevator to look at Emma. They started cursing her after they recognized who she was. They went hard on her, and she blanched from the waves of insult. She had been kind to everyone all her life. This was the first time she was yelled al so blatantly. Emma had no idea cyberbullying could be this bad in the real world. She only felt angry when she saw the comments online, but now she also felt awkward and humiliated.
She escaped the elevator even though it had not reached the floor she wanted to get off on. Someone actually shoved her when she turned around, and she almost fell. She teared up and turned around angrily to argue with the person who pushed her, but the elevator‘s doors had swung shul, taking the passengers upstairs. She was too scared to take the elevator and show herself anymorc, so she went to the stairs and called Kaleb, asking him to take the results to her.
Kaleb was a little confused. “Why do you want to meet up at the fifth floor‘s staircase? Why aren‘t you coming up?”
“It‘s a long story. Just come down with the results.” Her voice broke, and Kaleb noticed that.
He frowned and took the results to her. “What happened?” He found her and pulled her out of the dark staircase and walked to a quiet end of the corridor to talk Looking down, she told him what happened, much to his fury. “These idiots are why cyberbullying still happens! They just spew vitriol without even knowing what the truth is! It‘s not fair for the victim! I‘ll take you home.” He could never let her go home by herself now as she might run into more weirdos.
On their way back, he asked, “So how are you gonna deal with this?”
Emma said honestly, “Mr. Zurich is going to clear my name. The company‘s backing me up.”
Wesley had called her the moment Steven‘s interview shot up to trending. He promised he would clear her name once she got the results. He also said that the pholo in the comments was taken when she was waiting for the elevator. The person who took that photo probably worked in the building, or they might even be Alpha‘s employee too.
Kaleb coughed. “Wesley is helping you?”
Emma wondered why he was acting like that. “Yeah. Someone probably found out where I‘m working, so Mr. Zurich said he‘s gonna post an announcement using the company‘s name. It‘s more formal and believable that way.”
Kaleb was at a loss for words. Hey, if Wesley‘s helping her, then Trevor is useless. And why didn‘t he help her? He likes her. He should be helping her with this. This is big.
Kaleb had no idea that Trevor was sulking after Emma refused to accept his friend request. He said that he would stay out of her business and let her do whatever she wanted. Even if she was in trouble, he said he would only help if she asked for it.
Confused, he asked, “Why didn‘t you ask ‘Trevor to help you out? He should know that Steven lied when he said you didn’t care about him.” Trevor only gave them so much money because of Emma. He would have lefi them for dead is not for her.
“Trevor?” Emma shook her head and scoffed. “He won‘t help me. He hates me.” And we got into an argument because of that friend request.
Kaleb opened his mouth, but he was at a loss for words again. He had no idea that she thought Trevor hated her. I see the marriage traumatized her. After he took her home, Kaleb called Trevor right away. “Emma just came to the hospital to collect the results, and the passengers in the elevator lynched her,” he cut to the chase.
Trevor shot up from his chair. “What did you say?”
Kaleb said seriously, “I‘m not lying. She was so scared, she hid in the staircase.”
Trevor was silent. He knew she was being cyberbullied. Cerys had told him about it the moment the content creator‘s video made it to trending, but he had no idea things were this bad. It affected her in real life too? He was upset when he heard that she hid in the staircase out of fear.
Kaleb said, “This is serious. She said Wesley is going to clear her name.”
That quashed Trevor‘s idea of helping Emina out. He grumbled, “Why did you call me if she already has help then?”
Kaleb sighed. “I talked to her, and she thinks really lowly of you. She never even thought of asking you for help, since she thinks you hate her and will never help her. In the end, he clicked his tongue and mocked, “I see you‘re a failure of an ex.” He
sounded like Zachary when he said that.
Kaleb hung up right after, and Trevor almost hurled his phone away. Am I that scary? Why didn‘? she talk to me? I know I look like I hate her, but I won‘t leave her for dead. I would have helped her. All she had to do was ask. He sat around for a while, then picked up the phone to summon Cerys into his office.
