Chapter 92
The bodyguards dragged the Yates away. They were not treated kindly even though Simon told Trevor a secret. The men did not just drag the Yates away; they followed them back and watched them pack up before sending them away.
After the Yates were taken away, Zachary pul his hand in his pocket and walked into the room. He sat down beside Trevor and said, “I have no idea what you‘re thinking. I heard you got Raymond to send that guy a legal letter?”
Trevor said nothing. Zachary let out a sigh. “If you like her, then go for her.” A pause later, he added, “None of us ever tried to win an ex–wife back, but you can be the first one to do that.”
Zachary was laughing at him, and Trevor rolled his eyes. Sull, it did annoy him a little. His friends would laugh at him if he tried to win Emma back. The people who knew about the past would laugh at him too. He was the one who did not want her. He was the one who refused to marry her, and he even thought he was released from torture when they got the divorce.
Zachary asked, “So do you still think she‘s just playing hard to get?”
Trevor hurled a pillow at his face. Can you shut up? You just had to bring that up, didn‘t you? When Emma first came back, he thought she still loved him and was just playing hard to get, but now things just turned around.
Zachary guffawed, but after he was done laughing, he said seriously, “Honestly, I think she‘s nice. Her personality is a lot better than Crystal‘s, and she‘s a talented writer. Very artistic.” Zachary looked envious. “I saw the Iweets. It captures the heart. I‘d probably fall for a woman who‘d write that kind of stuff for me.”
Trevor sneered. “Stop flattering yourself. Tons of girls wrote love letters to you back in school, and I‘ve never seen you fall for any of them.”
Darn. He heaved a sigh and defended himself, “Hey, I was still young. You know, time taught me a lot of things. It‘s not easy to get a lover who really knows you.”
Trevor looked at him. “What‘s wrong with you? What‘s with the philosophical stuff? I thought you prefer going with the flow.” Zachary was a bona fide playboy. He would never fall for any woman, nor would he shed a tear for any one of them.
Zachary leaned back into the couch and drawled, “I mean, my parents are probably gonna match me up with some rich girl, so I had a little cpiphany.”
“As if the marriage papers can stop you from doing what you want.” Trevor knew Zachary better than anyone, so he did not think marriage would stop him.
“I used to be really carefree.” He gave Trevor a look. “But what happened to you made me slow down a little. I don‘t want to end up like you. You know, falling for your ex wife whom you disliked at first.”
Goddammit. Trevor cursed, “Are you trying to get on my f*cking nerves?”
Zachary defended himself again, “No, I‘m not!” He truly was worried after what happened to Trevor. He used to be a super playboy. He did not care about love, and he scoffed at the idea of marriage. Hey, you can just break up or gel divorced. What‘s the big deal?
Kaleb tried to dissuade Trevor from divorcing at first, but Zachary supported him. Trevor disliked Emma, and she was the one who brought the divorce up, so he had thought that Trevor should just cut it off. However, now that Trevor was falling for her again, it proved that both him and Zachary were wrong about the divorce. Zachary wondered if his opinion on love and marriage was correct. He was starting to get worried. What if I end up caring about some woman too much? Darn, that‘s really scary.
Trevor stared at him for a while. He knew what Zachary was thinking, so he left angrily.
“Hey, where are you going? I thought we were having dinner!” Zachary called out to him, but Trevor did not even turn around. He leaned back into the couch and wondered if he should go with that arranged marriage.
Cerys took the time to get the pen Emma wanted to give Trevor while she was out for work the next day. She asked the retail assistant to pack it up nicely, and there was a card Emma wrote in there. “Thanks for the help, Mr. Bateson. It‘s not much, but I hope you like it. Hope everything goes well for you. Cerys watched as Emma wrote this formal card. She had to hold her laughter in. Wow, she really is just trying to thank him. It‘s not even ambiguous in the slightest.
She went to Trevor‘s office after she arrived at the company. ‘Trevor frowned at the delicate box that was in front of him. He had a bad feeling about this.
“Sir, Emma wants you to have this.” Cerys noticed that Trevor was looking annoyed now, but she had to finish the message. “She wants to thank you for your help.” She held her breath and retreated. Trevor did look murderous, but she felt like laughing, though she held it in.
Trevor was irritated. He felt like blacking out for a moment. Just before Cerys came in, Kaleb told him that Emma called him. She wanted to treat him to a meal, and she wanted him to set the time, Kaleb told her that they could go together if they were both free. And then Cerys came in with the gift. So she didn‘t want to invite me? That‘s some double standard! We both helped her, but all she did was give me a gift. She didn‘t even want to see me, but she wants to treat Kaleb to a meal. He was too angry to notice that his pen was way more expensive than a meal.
