Chapter 101
Recalling the days he divorced Emma, Trevor clenched his teeth with hatred.
Getting dressed was relatively easy. His ties, watches, cufflinks, collar clips, and other accessories were found in the dressing room, but he had a hard time looking for other items in the house.
When he wanted to drink a glass of water, he had to rummage through the kitchen cabinets for a long time before finding the one Emma prepared for him.
When he wanted to have a cup of coffee, he also had to fiddle with the coffee machine for a long time, but the taste was unsatisfactory.
Emma liked to keep the house tidy, so she would usually clear the clutter at first instance.
In addition to that, they lived in a big house. Once, he was infuriated by himself while trying to look for something, so he stubbed his toe against a cabinet next to
him.
He was annoyed by Emma‘s selfishness. When she wanted to marry him, she pestered him all day and night.
Once she got sick of him, she made a fuss about getting a divorce and simply left without even turning back. In fact, she even made him look like a dummy without any life skills. If she had a conscience, she would have explained to him where she placed the daily necessities.
Hah.Ungrateful woman.
Zachary glanced at Trevor and said softly, I think if this continues, Wesley might win over Emma‘s heart soon.” After that, he added, “He would appreciate her talent in her career and affirm her ability.”
Then, he evaluated, “If she is criticized, he would take the initiative to confess, and provide her psychological support and care. If she isn‘t feeling well, he would be concerned about her, or perhaps, cook for her. Oh, Trevor. Wesley is a great example of a man pursuing a woman.”
Hearing that, Trevor paused in the middle of inhaling his cigarette.
After a while of silence, Kaleb looked at him and uttered seriously, “Trevor, Emma received too little love and care from you. She‘ll be easily moved by other men who treat her well.”
Zachary chimed in, “Yeah. It‘s pretty common to love a woman to the point you‘ll
spoil her rotten until other men can‘t stand her. Because, only then, she‘ll never be able to leave you.”
Kaleb nodded and agreed with Zachary. “But what about you?”
Trevor never showed his love for Emma. All he did was neglect her and behave indifferently to her.
Kaleb didn‘t say these words so as to not trigger his friend, so Trevor should have fully known how he treated Emma.
Listening to his friend‘s comments, Trevor took a deep breath. Their words might be harsh, but at the same time, he felt a little anxious.
Zachary added, “Can you tell me why you‘re holding a bunch of flowers?”
Trevor flicked the soot and replied lightly, “She used to decorate the house with these, so I guess she likes them…”
Zachary spread his hands and asked him with a smile, “Since when were you interested in her feelings? Why did you start considering her preferences?”
After pursing his lips, Trevor looked at Zachary while he uttered bluntly, “With all due respect, you need to take a good look at yourself. To be exact, you need to take a good look at your heart and what kind of feelings you have toward her.”
In a relationship, outsiders were usually able to see the situation clearer than the people involved directly.
As bystanders, Zachary and Kaleb could sense a change in Trevor‘s attitude toward Emma, even though Trevor himself thought otherwise
As his good friends, they had to point this out to remind Trevor because they did not want him to miss his chance with Emma again.
Trevor merely glanced at the two and remained silent.
Although the two of them stopped talking, they know Trevor‘s personality. He seldom expressed his thoughts in words, even though there was a storm blowing up in his mind.
If Zachary were to describe Trevor‘s character, a pleasant adjective would be calm, but in fact… he was just plain boring.
Before dinner was over, Alice called Trevor
Since he did not answer her calls throughout the day, he figured it was not nice to decline her call again.
“Trevor, there is a charity dinner on the weekend–” uttered Alice over the phone.
However, before she could finish, he interrupted, “I‘m not going. Work has been hectic.”
As soon as Alice spoke, Trevor knew her purpose. She must have wanted to use this charity dinner as an excuse to invite Crystal as his plus one so that he and Crystal would be in touch again.
Since he already had a showdown with Thomas, it was impossible for him to accept any of their arrangements.
Alice was choked by his words and fell silent for a while. Later, she tried again. “I want you to bring Arianna with you. Introduce her to some nice guys.”
Then, she sighed, “Didn‘t you call her ignorant and a troublemaker? I thought about it. Instead of sending her abroad to suffer, why not marry her off to a good household?”
Trevor was amused by his mother‘s idea.
First of all, Alice was most probably throwing the bait by asking him to take Arianna to the event. When the time came, he would be attending with Crystal instead.
They could easily make up an excuse so that Arianna would not be able to attend since his sister was also in cahoots with them.
Secondly, in order to prevent Arianna from going abroad, his mother did everything she could and even planned to marry her off.
Judging by Arianna‘s infamous reputation in Jonestown for changing boyfriends as frequently as changing clothes in recent years, which man would want her?
If men from ordinary fainilies pursued her, Arianna and Alice would look down on them.
Did his mother really think it was an easy task to marry Arianna off?
Also, why did his mother say that Arianna would suffer abroad? He made this decision obviously for the good of Arianna and the good of everyone.
Taking a deep breath, he maintained a calm tone as he replied, “Mom, when it comes to the connections of outstanding men and women, you have more contacts than I do. You should worry about Arianna‘s marriage yourself. I don‘t know any potential candidates.”
The implication was that he would not bring Arianna to the event.
It was also impossible for him to introduce a guy to Arianna. The guys he knew were outstanding people, and she was not worthy of them.
After finishing his sentence, ‘Trevor continued, “I‘m still having dinner with my friends, so I‘ll hang up now.”
“Wail, Trevor! Hello? Hello–” Alice tried getting his attention back, but that did not stop him from hanging up the phone.
Once Trevor hung up, Zachary spoke, “Could the charity dinner your mother mentioned be the one hosted by Film Association? Since it‘s from the film industry, I think Emma will attend it.”
Trevor was speechless upon hearing that.
Kaleb chimed in, “I think so too. Since she has joined the industry as a screenwriter, she‘ll definitely participate in such occasions.”
Trevor was even more worried now because if Emma participated, she would be Wesley‘s plus one.
Zachary tutted, “Honestly speaking, Emma looks gorgeous after a makeover“!
His words elicited a glare from Trevor. At the mention of that, Trevor recalled the incident during Bateson Group Anniversary event.
It was undoubtedly his nightmare.
