Chapter 114
Emma thought Trevor would only deliver her a meal once, but who knew that he would come again the following night?
After Emma opened the door and saw him standing outside, she instinctively tried to stop him from entering the door. “President Bateson, my fool is much better now. You don‘t have to do this.”
“You got injured because of me, so I can‘t be rest assured until you are completely healed,” Trevor insisted with a poker face and walked past Emma into her home.
Without a choice, Emma bit the bullet and had dinner with him again. She even made him another cup of coffee after the meal. Just like that, the two spent another peaceful night together.
When Trevor knocked on her door for the third consecutive night, Emma was not at home.
Trevor stood in front of her house and called her with a sullen face. “Sorry, President Bateson, I‘m out,” apologized Emma over the phone.
Trevor immediately frowned. “Has your foot healed completely? Did the doctor allow you to leave the house?”
Emma replied seriously, “I‘ve been applying the ointment for the past three days, and the swelling has already subsided a while ago. I can walk perfectly fine now.”
Hearing that, Trevor paused before asking, “Where are you now?”
“Out of town,” Emma replied.
She made it clear that she did not want to tell him the destination, so Trevor had no choice but to grit his teeth and say, “Be careful.”
“Thanks.”
The two simply chatted a little while before hanging up. Trevor looked down at the tasty dinner in his hand but lost the appetite to cat.
He was not sure what was wrong, but he had a good appetite for dinner with Emma for the last two nights.
Since the last time he was admitted to the hospital with gastritis, his appetite had been very poor, and he was also disinterested in all kinds of delicacies that were
placed in front of him.
After returning to his residence with dinner, he called Cerys and asked her if she knew where Emma went.
Cerys said she was not sure, and she did not hear Emma talking about going out of town.
After hanging up, Trevor thought about it and contacted Susanna.
Susanna smiled cheerfully on the phone. “Of course, I know where she went.”
Trevor asked straight to the point, “Where did she go?”
Susanna answered truthfully, “Wesley‘s hometown.”
A bad feeling rose in Trevor‘s heart. “What is she doing there?”
Susanna smiled and replied, “President Bateson, I guess you already know the answer. Don‘t be shy. Tell me.”
Before he could even breathe, Trevor was almost choked to death by Susanna‘s words.
He did have an answer in his heart, but it was heart–wrenching.
Wesley‘s mother was ill, so Emma must have gone to visit. It was easy to guess the reason.
Even if Emma and Wesley were not a couple before this, they would definitely be together after this trip.
Susanna continued, “President Bateson, human hearts are made of flesh, and so is Emma‘s.”
Trevor did not hold back his anger and sneered, “She always said that she loved me, but she immediately looked for other men right after our divorce! Is this what love means to her?!”
Susanna mocked him in response, “With all due respect, you have been divorced for more than a year now. Some people might have already gotten married and even bear children. Emma is considered a relatively conservative woman.”
Trevor felt gloomy after hearing Susanna‘s words, so he hung up the phone without saying anything
He could not believe it. He could not believe that Emma was in a relationship with Wesley. He refused to believe that Emma would fall in love with someone else.
Grabbing the phone, he intended to ask Erma in person but soon realized that he
was not in a position to interrogate her. Their relationship ended a long time ago, so she was not obliged to tell him whether or not she was in a new relationship now.
When she merely answered him that she was out of town just now, it was enough to prove her position.
She was not going to tell him anything about herself anymore.
Now that he had completely lost his appetite, he yanked his tie off, went upstairs, and threw himself into the big bed.
Lying down with a slumped expression, he looked up and saw the chandelier above his head, which was simple yet elegant.
Emma was the one who suggested the change of lamp. He remembered that it was after a steamy session that night when she whispered to him in his arms, saying that she wanted to change the lamp in the bedroom because the heavy metal style was overbearing
He easily agreed to her request because she was always in charge of the details, especially since she requested it after their intimate session.
Feeling frustrated, he retracted his gaze, and when he turned his head, he noticed the curtain of the floor–to–ceiling window, which was also changed because of her suggestion.
The original layout of this villa was his design, but it changed a lot after she moved
in.
He did not notice it before, but after the divorce and living alone, he slowly realized her existence and arrangements which made the villa feel more like home.
He did not know what was wrong with him. What evoked his emotions after being divorced for more than a year?
Regarding the relationship between Emma and Wesley, Susanna did tell him the truth, but there was another side to it that she deliberately hid.
It was true that established a relationship with Wesley, but it was a pretend relationship.
Since Wesley‘s mother‘s condition was not stable, her biggest regret was not being able to witness his son starting a family and a business.
For this reason, Wesley called Emma to ask whether she could pretend to be his girlfriend for a short while so that his mother could leave without regret.
Emma agreed.
Whether it was for work or for a private favor, Emma would readily agree to Wesley‘s request.
In the aspect of work, Wesley offered her the opportunity to be a screenwriter, which was equivalent to giving her a chance to be reborn.
As for private affairs, Wesley would provide her with endless care. When she encountered difficulties, he would always be the first to support her and assist her.
Since she agreed to pretend to be Wesley‘s girlfriend, Emma set off to Wesley‘s hometown under his arrangement.
When Trevor called Emma, Wesley had just picked up Emma at the station in his hometown.
After getting into the car, he asked Emma while driving, “Was it a call from President Bateson?”
Emma nodded. “Yeah.”
Wesley asked warmly, “Does he know?”
Emma shook her head and denied, “I didn‘t tell him, and there‘s no need to anyway.”
Trevor merely asked her where she went. So, why would she tell him she came to become Wesley‘s girlfriend?
Wesley added, “I heard that President Bateson delivers meals to you these days and cares about you very much.”
“He must have felt bad for hurting me.” Emma had also pondered why Trevor kept bringing her meals these days.
After all, if he hadn‘t tugged her so rudely that night, she wouldn‘t have twisted her foot.
Now that her foot was healed, he probably would not contact her anymore.
This was the true relationship between Emma and Wesley. Susanna knew everything, but she purposefully didn‘t tell Trevor the truth just to provoke him.
Of course, Emma also specifically explained to Susanna that she should not tell anyone the truth. Although it was a fake relationship, she did not want it to be exposed. With the advancement of technology, it was easy for information to be shared, and if Wesley‘s mother found out, she would be hurt.
