Nadine could tell that Brad was fuming, and she knew better than to confront him head-on.

Plastering a bright smile on her face, she responded, "Oh, so I'm the first woman who's ever rejected you? Well, I'm truly honored! Thank you for thinking so highly of me, Mr. Hamilton. Alas, once there's a first, there will be a second and a third."

She was in Brad's car, and she knew she was no match for him in terms of strength. All she could do was tread lightly and avoid provoking him too much.

Nadine was smiling so brightly. Even though his anger still simmered beneath the surface, her radiant smile managed to dampen the flames-if only slightly.

"Fine, I don't want to beat around the bush. Let me get straight to the point. Ever since we divorced, life hasn't felt right. Is there any chance we could go back to how things were?"

Nadine gaped at him, her eyes wide with shock and disbelief. When had Brad ever said something so cheesy? It couldn't be true! Either he had an ulterior motive, or he was up to no good.

Her clear, almond-shaped eyes stared into his for what felt like an eternity, unsure of what to say or how to respond. Noticing her silence, he repeated himself. "I meant every word. Can't we... go back to the way things used to be?"
