"Here, this is what I was given," he replied, passing him the card, and Jonathan began to read it.

"A card with no name and only a contact number. Interesting," he said, flipping it around to reveal a message scribbled on it.

'Contact me if you ever consider destroying Jonathan Miller.' Jonathan's eyebrows furrowed as he read those words.

"Bastard," he cursed as his grasp on the card tightened, crushing it.

"It was a trap set for you Jacob, and what a surprise you fell into it," Jonathan sneered, casting an angry stare at Jacob that caused him to lower his gaze.

"I know, and I apologize for everything," he said.

Jonathan sighed. He couldn't believe Jacob, who was so intelligent, could become such a futile person as a result of his addiction.

"It's hard for me to entirely trust you-" Jacob looked up at Jonathan with concern in his eyes.

"-but I can see you really need my support. So, for the sake of our lost friendship, I may still offer you the position. But there's a condition." Jonathan awaited as he watched Jacob's optimistic expression.

"I am willing to do anything if it means you can all forgive me," Jacob answered, soaking in Jonathan's remarks.
