Chapter 624

The man didn't immediately respond, leaving Nathalie with just a vague promise: "You'll find out soon enough."

Nathalie was on high alert around the Stewart family, and knowing this man was set to marry into them only fueled her suspicion.

She cut right to the chase: "You know my history with the Stewarts. Since you're going to be part of their family, that makes us adversaries, not allies. Once we wrap up this meal, our connection is done."

Having said her piece, Nathalie stood, grabbed her purse, and made to leave.

The man let out a soft chuckle, a sound that was both relaxed and slightly self- mocking.

Nathalie eyed him warily. "What's so funny?"

"I'm just laughing at myself for going through all this trouble, only to be unappreciated," he said.

Nathalie replied, "I know you've been a great help, but we're on opposite sides. If we let this friendship grow, it'll only make things harder if we ever have to face off. It's better to cut it off now while we're still just acquaintances. It's for the best."

With that, Nathalie turned and walked away without a backward glance.

The man sighed, muttering to himself, "How could I ever be your enemy?"

He turned his wheelchair and followed her.
