Chapter 774

No surprise that Nathan had once said, "Making you happy is my mission." He

was helping Morris fulfill his wish. When Nathalie figured all this out, her guilt and love for Morris hit her like a tidal wave. She held onto his hand tightly, as if letting go would mean he'd just flutter away like a butterfly.

Officer Baldwin gently prodded, "Ashley, we need to go."

Tears streamed down Nathalie's face. "Nathan, you haven't called me Nathalie. Are you still mad at me? It's my fault. You were right there, looking out for me, and I didn't even realize."

Nathalie had broken through all of No. 13's defenses. She was the best Nathalie in the world—the one who'd give up her last piece of bread when starving, the one who planted an entire garden of his favorite veggies just for him. How could he be mad at her?

He finally dropped the cold act, his hands shaking as he gently touched her hair. "Officer Baldwin, take her away," he said, his voice barely steady.

"No," Nathalie cried out, panic in her voice. "Nathan, please, don't make me go." He still didn't call her by name, and Nathalie felt a pit in her stomach. Was he really planning to cut her out of his life? Could he be so cold?

She couldn't bring herself to leave, fearing she'd never see him again.

Officer Baldwin, out of options, called over two female officers. "Please, take her out."
