Chapter 839

A month flew by in what felt like no time at all. The day had finally come for Cameron and Greta to make their divorce official.

Greta and her mom, Margaret, were already at the courthouse, waiting for Cameron to show up. Margaret tried one last time to change Greta's mind, "Greta, please think about this again. Your health isn't the best, and I won't always be around to help. Who's going to look after you once the divorce is final?"

Greta's eyes revealed a mix of reluctance and sorrow, but her mind was clear. "Do you honestly believe he's the same Cameron who used to shower me with love? He's over it. Can't you see? He's not interested in taking care of your daughter anymore."

Margaret countered, "Most couples face rough patches like this. They bicker when they're young, but eventually, they grow old together as each other's only companion."

Greta cut her off, exasperated, "Enough, Mom. I don't need another lecture."

Margaret went quiet, looking a bit sheepish. Tears filled Greta's eyes as she continued, "He's the one who's pushing for this divorce. Do you really think this is what I want?"

Margaret could only let out a heavy sigh.

Soon enough, Cameron arrived. He was a shadow of his former self, having lost almost everything. His clothes were cheap, his hair disheveled, and his face showed the wear and tear of stress and fatigue. He'd arrived by cab.

Seeing him like this, Greta felt a wave of relief. At least she was getting out now. But deep down, something shattered.
