Nathalie nodded so hard her head felt like it might fall off.

"Nathan, it's me."

But almost instantly, she realized-Nathan couldn't see her, couldn't hear her. She was just a ghost in this world, powerless to change a thing.

Wait...

She stared down at the sunflower plush in her hands, stunned. How on earth could she still hold it?

"Nathalie. I knew you'd come back to see me."

Nathan's eyes were red and watery, his voice thick with grief. "Nathalie, if you're really here, show me a sign."

Nathalie tapped the sunflower gently.

Nathan broke into tears of relief and joy. "It really is you."

It took a while before he could pull himself together.

He sat on the couch, hugging the sunflower plush to his chest.

He patted the seat next to him. "Nathalie, can you sit with me for a bit? There's something I want to tell you."

Nathalie sat beside him, quiet as a shadow.
