Chapter 989

He must've only grabbed a few hours of restless sleep. Sometime in the dead of night, his phone buzzed, snapping him wide awake. He rubbed his eyes and squinted at the screen. Nathalie's profile picture glowed, and a message popped up: "Not good."

Morris's stomach dropped. "What's wrong?"

He watched the little typing dots blink on and off, but nothing else came through. It was strange-Nathalie was always so open, never one to beat around the bush. When did she become so hesitant, so distant? When did things between them get so awkward?

Trying to break through, Morris typed, "I heard you went to see Almos for hypnosis?"

"Yeah."

"How did it go?"

"Not good." Just thinking about that session made Nathalie shudder. Waking up from it felt like waking from a nightmare-one where the person she loved most would soon be gone.

"What happened?" Morris asked quietly.

Again, the typing bubble flickered, but nothing arrived. The silence made his heart sink even further.
