Inside the collapsed stone cavern, Alpha Mateo let out a few coughs. Warm blood had splattered onto him–but it wasn’t his.

He reached out instinctively, his palm coming back wet and sticky. He tried to sit up, only to realize he was completely pinned down. Aubrey had thrown herself over him and taken the brunt of the falling rocks.

“Why…” Alpha Mateo stared in disbelief. He never imagined that, in the final moment, the one who’d save him would be Aubrey.
