When he saw it was Aubrey standing over him, a flicker of malice crossed his eyes, though he wasn’t entirely surprised. The moment Aubrey had been rescued and brought back to the pack by the alpha, he had felt a bad premonition. That shock quickly vanished, replaced by a carefully crafted mask of anger and innocence.

“I don’t know what you’re talking about. Kill you? We have no grudge between us. Why would I want you dead?”

Harold tried to feign ignorance, but Aubrey’s wrist sank slightly, the blade digging deeper into the side of his neck, leaving a sharper trace of blood. Her voice was cold as ice. “You don’t know? The Phantom leader spilled everything before he died. He said you were the one who hired them to capture me.”

Harold’s heart jolted violently. The Phantom leader was dead? Impossible! He was an alpha- ranked wolf! Could it be that alpha Henry found out and killed him for Aubrey’s sake? Or perhaps Henry was hiding nearby, watching everything? Otherwise, how could an omega like her slip past guards, unnoticed, and drag him out of his room?

The thought made Harold even more unwilling to admit it. He shook his head quickly. “I really don’t know. I don’t even know this Phantom leader.”

“Is that so.” Aubrey’s lips curved coldly. With a flick of her silver dagger, she sliced off his left pinky finger with precision.
