Cedric barely acknowledged him, giving a dismissive sound before urging Daniela to go ahead and rest upstairs.

While Cedric set about making juice for Daniela, the housekeeper slipped quietly into the kitchen to tidy up. Midway through loading oranges into the juicer, Cedric paused to ask, “Has anyone else been in here today?”

Pausing to recall, the housekeeper shook her head. “No one has come through the kitchen. After Mr. McCoy hurt himself, he went to lie down. I’ve been cleaning the living room ever since, and he hasn’t left his room.”

Taking that in stride, Cedric gave a nod, poured the juice, and set it aside. He reached into the fridge, grabbed a pomegranate, and began peeling it. Midway through the task, a strange sensation prickled the back of his neck—a pair of eyes seemed fixed on him.
