Chapter 1

Nelly’s POV

“Y-you can’t do this to me, Astel,” I stuttered, my heart racing as we stood in the middle of the crowd.

Tonight was the mating ball, the grand hall filled with pack members. Electrifying music and laughter resonated in the air, and the ambiance was lively.

I just found out that Astel was my mate; he’s the Alpha of the Bluemoon stone pack.

I’d hope Astel accepts me as his mate. But instead of the words I yearned for, Astel’s gaze shifted to my cousin, Shantel.

My heart skipped a beat, and his next words shattered my heart.

“Nelly, you are not what I want,” he declared, his voice harsh and unkind. “You are not worthy of being my mate. I choose Shantel, your cousin, as my mate instead.”

My knees shook, and it felt like my heart had been torn from my chest. Fresh tears welled up in my eyes, and my palms grew clammy.

“W-what did you just… say?” I stammered, my voice quivering. I couldn’t believe Astel had chosen Shantel over me.

“You heard me, Nelly! I won’t repeat my words,” Astel retorted firmly at me. “Shantel will be my mate, and Luna of my pack, she’s the one I’ve chosen.”

No!

Desperation surged within me immensely; my hands balled into fists. I couldn’t let Shantel win again. Ever since we were children, she’d always taken what was rightfully mine.

“Please, Astel, you must be mistaken. You can’t reject me. We’re bound together by the moon goddess!” I pleaded with him.
