As the hot water cascaded over my skin, the image of Alpha Kex’s furious expression flashed before my eyes.

I had braced, my mind raced and for the worst. But then, he simply turned and walked away, as if I didn’t even exist. I felt a stab of pain in my heart.

I’ll admit, I couldn’t help but feel that there was something cursed about this place. Every time I started to feel even the slightest bit of happiness, it was as if something-
