Chapter 61

Chapter 61.

Nelly’s POV,

“It must have been Aisha,” I said as he poured me a glass of wine.

He chuckled. “You’re right. She told me, and then we planned this together.” I smiled, touched by their thoughtfulness. “You don’t celebrate your birthday?” he asked, his brow furrowed in concern.

I shook my head. “Not really,” I said, taking a sip of the wine. “It was the day I lost my parents, so it’s never been a day of celebration for me,” I said, my voice quiet and somber.

He pressed my hands together, his gaze full of compassion. “I’m sorry,” he said, his voice gentle.

“I don’t want to ruin the mood,” I said, trying to smile.

“It’s okay to talk about it,” he said, squeezing my hands. “You can tell me anything.” I felt a rush of gratitude, “Thanks. “So,” I said, giving him a teasing look, “what made you decide to be so romantic?”

He grinned, meeting my gaze. “I was taking your advice, you know.”

I laughed. “To show your mate romance, not me!”

He winked. “Let’s just say I was practicing your advice on you.”

I shook my head, amused and impressed by his cleverness. “Well, I must say, you’re quite the romantic!” I said, giving him a playful nudge.

“You can say that again,” he said with a chuckle. I laughed, enjoying his playful mood.

He stood up and walked behind me, leaning close to whisper in my ear. I shivered at his

touch.

“There are all sorts of delicious food here,” he said, his voice soft and low. “What would you like?”

I took a deep breath, trying to steady my nerves. “Anything that tastes delicious,” I said, my voice quivering slightly. I could feel him smiling as he stood up straight.

“There’s pasta with chicken and pesto, there’s cheese pizza, and there are plenty of other options,” he said, gesturing to the food laid out on the table. I thought for a
