Chapter 96

Chapter 96.

Aisha’s POV.

I could feel the heat rising within me, a slow burn that threatened to consume me from within. Without a word, I turned to face Harry, his smile like a beacon of light in the dark. But even as he watched Nelly and Kex dance, I knew I needed to escape the stifling atmosphere.

“Babe, I want to take a stroll,” I murmured, and he turned to face me, his brow furrowing in concern.

“Are you okay?” he asked, his eyebrows high and his face masked with a frown.

“Yes,” was the curt response I could give him. That was all he needed to understand.

As I walked away, I could feel his eyes on me, and I hastened my steps, my heart pounding.

The night air was a welcome respite from the stifling atmosphere of the reception, its coolness a soothing balm on my overheated skin. Without a backward glance, I walked briskly through the crowd, seeking solace in the quiet of the evening.

I found a quiet spot outside and took a seat, my legs swinging back and forth in a repetitive, almost meditative motion. A nagging sense of unease gnawed at me, an unidentifiable feeling that something was amiss.

I wracked my brain, trying to pinpoint the cause of my discomfort, but no matter how hard I tried, the puzzle pieces simply wouldn’t come together. Today was Nelly’s wedding day, a day that should have been filled with unbridled joy and excitement.

I was happy for her, and yet, something was off–kilter, like a subtle yet persistent discordant note in a beautiful symphony.”

I couldn’t quite put my finger on it, but I knew that something was wrong. Maybe it was the swirling emotions of the day, or maybe it was something more concrete, but whatever it was, it was killing me.

The disquieting feeling persisted, a shiver of unease that danced across my skin

like a ghostly touch. Desperate to distract myself, I rose to my feet, roaming the area in search of any distraction that might dispel the growing sense of dread.

My eyes darted from one thing to the next, my gaze probing every corner, yet the feeling refused to fade. In an attempt to calm my racing heart, my hands found their way to my neck, but the quickening rhythm of my pulse only added to the turmoil.

And then, I froze, my eyes caught something and my jaw dropped.

The unexpected sight of Aurora, the strange woman, jolted me out of my thoughts like a bolt of lightning. She stood before me, her gaze darting back and forth as if she was on high alert. My body went into stealth mode, instinctively seeking refuge behind a nearby tree.

Peering out from my hiding spot, I watched with bated breath as Aurora furtively retrieved something from within the folds of her skirt. A wave of unease washed over me as I witnessed her add the mysterious substance to a nearby drink.

I gasped, my heart thumping against my chest as the realization hit me like a freight train: Aurora was up to no good! With my heart racing, I crouched behind the tree, my eyes fixed on Aurora.

As she turned, the faint moonlight revealed the mischievous smirk on her face, sending a chill down my spine.

The threat of her presence was undeniable, and I knew I had to act fast before something disastrous happened. But, what could I do? Aurora was already making her way back toward the palace.

Stepping out of my concealment, I dusted off my garments, my movements calculated and composed.
