Regan POV

As the men grabbed me, I felt the initial flickering of fear as their hands yanked me roughly to my feet and they began to drag me out of the cell. They were rough, not caring if they hurt me or not. I could see my mates desperately fighting in an effort to get to me, their anger visible on their faces, even though they were fighting a losing battle, weakened by the wolfsbane we had all been injected with. As the door clanged shut and I was forcibly held by the warriors, all I could do was stare at both of my mates mutely, my body trembling, while Isabelle gloated, relishing the power she held and the power she had over me. Over us all. She motioned for the men to follow her, walking upstairs while my mates shouted out hoarsely behind me, demanding that she free me. Tears pricked the corners of my eyes but I blinked them back, refusing to let them fall. I would not show weakness in front of Isabelle, I vowed. But I wasn’t sure I would be able to keep that promise. Whatever she had in store for me…it wasn’t good.

I glanced over my shoulder, but the darkness of the dungeon only hid my mates from my view. We entered the main part of the pack house, and I stared around blindly, wondering what Isabelle was up to now. She was smirking, striding through the house as though she owned it, a pleased smile on her face. I felt trepidation sweep through me. She had claimed that this was to be retaliation for taking my mates away from her. She was angry, blaming me for the fact she hadn’t been taken as Xander and Xavier’s chosen mate and made the Luna of the pack. Hence all of this plotting and planning to get to where she was now. She had betrayed Xander and Xavier and put herself and her mother as the leaders of the group, manipulating Alpha Jackson and putting him under a spell to get him to go against his own sons. I gritted my teeth as Isabelle gestured for the men to drag me outside, onto the pack grounds, the pack members avoiding my eyes and continuing with their business as though I was simply invisible. They didn’t dare bring any attention to themselves, fearing that they too would be made targets if they tried to go against Isabelle or Heather while Alpha Jackson was protecting them both.

There was a large wooden post standing in the middle of the grass with a large iron collar bolted into it and a short leash attached to it. Isabelle paused and I stared at the contraption, my stomach beginning to sink. It looked like what one would do to a dog to prevent it from escaping, except of course that the collar was silver and designed to burn the flesh of any shifter it touched…I struggled and flailed but the men holding me did not release their grip, only tightened their hands on me even more as Isabelle gave a soft giggle and pointed at the post. My stomach began to churn. Only Isabelle could come up with such a horrid device and think it was genius.

“Do you like it, Regan?” she purred.

I felt nauseous. Isabelle had always been cruel, but this went beyond that. This was more of a punishment and a form of abuse. It was designed to humiliate. Then again, she had always participated in hurting me along with my father and Heather, so I shouldn’t have been as surprised as I was by her actions now. We might have been stepsisters, but we weren’t blood relatives or close in regards to family. Both of us despised each other. I sucked in a breath and glared at Isabelle not deigning to answer.

It didn’t make a difference to Isabelle who was determined to put on a show.

Isabelle pouted, putting her hands on her hips and peering closer at me. “What’s the matter, Regan? Cat got your tongue?” she asked, leering at me.

I remained silent. Answering her would only further antagonize her and I had the feeling that she was already angry enough with me. Isabelle sighed. “I was hoping that you would congratulate me on my ingenuity,” she said, spreading her hands out wide “or compliment me but it looks as though you don’t like it. That’s a shame,” she said with a dramatic flourish of her hands “because you’re about to get up close and personal with it she threatened.

She had just confirmed what I had suspected all along with one sentence.

The post and the collar were for me. I had known it instinctively and yet; I had hoped I was wrong. I had hoped Isabelle was not that ruthless, that vindictive. I was wrong. The men drew me closer as I kicked out, one of them forcing me down onto my knees as I let out a small cry, my knees colliding with the dirt hard.
