Xander POV

Today is the day. I can almost feel the excitement spreading through me as I clutch Regan’s hand tightly, while she rests on the hospital bed, her face glowing while the doctor begins to place the probe of the ultrasound machine on her stomach. Xavier is holding her other hand and all of us are watching the nearby screen intently. I am beyond thrilled to find out what gender our pup is going to be, even though I know that I will be happy either way, so long as our pup is healthy. I shoot a look at Xavier and can see the wide grin on his face and the sparkle in his eyes. Regan is silent but clutching our hands so tightly that her grip is almost painful. I don’t care. Right now, all I can think about is that monitor in front of me and what I’m about to find out.

“Your pup is developing at a normal rate” the doctor speaks in a kind voice, her eyes rising as she looks at all three of us who are waiting expectantly for her to divulge the secret only she knows.

“Here is its heartbeat” she indicated, the sound of our pup’s steady rhythm filling the room.

I heave a sigh of relief. My pup, or rather our pup is okay. I grit my teeth, watching as the doctor slowly moves the probe over Regan’s slightly swollen stomach. It’s torture. Pure hell. I’m certain that the doctor is deliberately prolonging my agony. Xavier looks as though he’s in the same amount of pain, while Regan is glancing between the two of us, a look of amusement on her face.

How can she be so calm at a time like this? Why wasn’t she as anxious as the rest of us?

“As to the gender…” the doctor’s voice trails off and she glances at Regan sharply, ignoring Xaver and me as if we aren’t there.

I take offense to that. We are the Alphas of the pack after all. She should be submitting to our wishes.

“Luna Regan,” she asks sweetly, “are you absolutely certain that you wish to know the gender of the pup? If you are being pressured by certain individuals.” She shot us a disgruntled glare as Xavier, and I stiffened in shock “then I can certainly have them removed or keep the gender a secret if that’s what you desire.”
