"It's none of your business," Colby said, not wasting any words.

Suddenly, Odie's mind drifted back to when they were kids. Colby had always been the quiet one in the slums. Back then, the place was crawling with kids- some were tricksters, some outright thieves, and others just begged for scraps. He was the weakest of the lot, always sickly, so begging was all he could manage. Naturally, he got pushed to the roughest corner by the other kids.

Colby was there too. At first, he thought Colby was just another weakling, getting bullied like him. So one day, he offered Colby half of his sandwich. Colby didn't say a word, didn't even eat it.

The next day, a kind stranger gave him a coin. But when the other kids saw it, jealousy took over. They beat him up and snatched it away. That night, he hid in a haystack, crying by himself.

Later, Colby showed up. He tried to play it tough, wiping his tears and acting like nothing happened. But out of nowhere, Colby tossed a coin in front of him. Colby sat there, unscathed, in the corner. Those dark eyes of his had a calmness and steadiness that stood out from the other kids.

He still remembers the first thing Colby ever said to him. It was on their third day together. By then, he was ostracized and starving. Somehow, Colby managed to grab a loaf of bread. He tossed it right into his hands and said, "Want it? It's all yours."
