Chapter 680

"Mr. Lane, are we risking our lives to attend your trade fair? I just saw someone collapse unexpectedly. Are you not going to give us an explanation?" Someone in the crowd began to demand an explanation because he was standing not far from Sasha earlier and had seen the bullet hit her with his own eyes. If it had struck any of them, they could've been dead!

Douglas lowered his voice. He had no idea why something like this would happen today, but after reviewing the surveillance footage, they discovered that an assassin had opened fire from the opposite building's rooftop.

"I've sent my men to investigate the situation and will provide everyone with a reasonable explanation for what happened today. If you still feel unsafe to stick around, you may leave the venue for now."

Even though he tried to reassure them, some were still unconvinced.

"Excuse me, this is a life-threatening incident. How could you fool us with such a lame excuse? You were the one who picked the venue and sent invitations to us. You shouldn't shirk responsibility when something like this happens!"

Pursing his lips, Douglas glanced at the person who spoke. Smirking, he scoffed, "It's true that I picked the venue, but I also informed all of you a week in advance. Therefore, I shouldn't be the only suspect."

The man was a little speechless when Douglas counterattacked him. His face flushed as he huffed, "What does that mean? Do you think I was the one who did it?"

Just as the argument was getting heated, a tall figure entered the venue.

Emily glanced at the person yelling at Douglas and said indifferently, "A shooting happened, which is something none of us wanted to see. We reserved this venue in advance and ensured that the hotel's security measures were stringent. Besides, one of the security guards managed to save Mr. Gardner's life just now. Nothing major happened."

While emphasizing her point word by word, she smiled and scanned the crowd before continuing, "It is our fault that the incident that occurred today has shocked everyone. Doug and I never expected this to happen either. I'm afraid all of you are no longer in the mood to stay for the trade fair, so you may head home now. Anyone interested may discuss face-to-face with us at F&R Enterprise next week."

Since she was supported by the Phoenix Family and Douglas was supported by F&R Enterprise, it wouldn't do them any good to fall out with any of them.

Without another word, the crowd dispersed. Once everyone had left, he glanced at her and nodded in gratitude. "Thanks a lot."

A faint smile appeared as she reached out to brush away the baby hair on her forehead. "We're husband and wife. Don't mention it."

With a blank expression, Douglas looked around and inquired, "Where's Mom and Dad?"

"They've already gone back." A bitter smile appeared on Emily's face. "I've made it clear to them so they won't bother you anymore in the future."
