The couple walked side by side because they were only being escorted for questioning this time, so the police didn't put them in handcuffs and merely led them into the car.

Seeing no one around, Nicole lowered her voice, turned to look at Colton, and asked, "Why did you tell them we were related?"

When he noticed that she appeared slightly annoyed, he smiled and took her arm as he replied softly, "That way, we won't be suspected of whispering right now."

She cringed, suppressing the urge to send a fist at his face.

After noticing Nicole's annoyed expression, Colton immediately stopped teasing her. He then uttered seriously, "It's different here from home. I worry that you'd get bullied here. If I tell them you're my wife, they won't harass you."

She frowned in response. Was it that bad? Even though she stayed abroad for years, she had never encountered bullying cases.

The look of disbelief on her face elicited a laugh from him. "It doesn't matter if it's true. We should still be prepared."

In fact, the police came to their house and clarified that they would only detain Nicole. Still, Colton was worried about sending her alone, so he claimed to be her husband in order to accompany her.

Although Gardner Corporation had more influence in their home country, their international influence was also considerable. Usually, the police wouldn't arrest such a prestigious family with great influence and the head of the family business at will unless they had definite evidence.

After listening to Colton's explanation, Nicole nodded and kept quiet while getting into the car. The car drove smoothly, and soon, the two arrived at the police station together. The police asked her a few customary questions, which Nicole answered truthfully.

Norman was still in prison when he was killed, and she was abroad at the time. The police back home also found out that the actual murderer was Pierre. Moreover, when Norman's family was killed, Nicole was back in her home country. There was no way she could kill the three. Despite that, she couldn't be ruled out as a suspect. Nonetheless, there was a lack of conclusive evidence, making it difficult to reach a conclusion.

Although Noah filed a lawsuit against her, there was no evidence. All they could do was summon her and question her following standard procedure. As soon as the interrogation was finished, she would be freed.

After the interrogation ended, she followed Colton out, and they happened to bump into Noah.
