Right Person, Wrong Time

"What's wrong? You're treating me to a meal anyway, and now you won't want to share a ride with me?" Colton questioned Nicole. In response to that, Nicole decided to give in, thinking she should stay away from trouble.

Soon, the duo arrived at Orchard Road just when it happened to be peak hour. Therefore, the restaurant's entrance was crowded with people, indicating that the business was good. However, thoughts of hesitation flashed through her mind when she saw the crowd.

Um. We need a reservation to dine here, don't we? Having heard about the newly opened restaurant and its good reviews, she was still surprised to see many customers. Then, she subconsciously turned her attention to Colton, finding his decent formal wear somewhat incompatible with the crowd right in front of them.

On the other hand, Colton didn't say a single word as he went on and took Nicole inside the restaurant. As soon as the waiter saw Colton, his eyes brightened up like he knew who he was. "Mr. Gardner, your room is right upstairs. It's been vacant all the time. Would you like to head upstairs now?"

At the same time, Nicole only gave a strange glimpse to the waiter before she saw Colton nodding and moving on. After following Colton to the room on the second floor, she found herself in a spacious lounge with a big round table on which there was a vase. As soon as she took a seat, someone immediately came into the room.

"Welcome, Mr. Gardner. Are you ready to order?" A plump man, who seemed to be in his forties, smiled in a flattering manner.

"We'll let you know once we make up our minds," Colton replied calmly.

"O-Of course. I shall excuse myself now, then." The man instantly understood Colton and responded affirmatively.

Soon, when Colton noticed the strange gaze on Nicole's face, he decided to satisfy her curiosity by telling her his story with the restaurant. "I invested in this restaurant."

After hearing the brief explanation, Nicole couldn't help but feel surprised. Stroking her chin, she wondered and murmured in an almost inaudible voice, "I thought the Gardner Corporation only had a part in the fashion and network industry. I didn't know they were also involved in food and beverage."

Colton looked up and stared at Nicole, saying, "I said 'I', not the Gardner Corporation." Nicole gazed at Colton strangely just when the man went on to elaborate further. "I own as many assets as the Gardner Corporation does. Therefore, I'm more than capable of keeping you well-fed even if I fall out and cut ties with the Gardner Family."

When Nicole heard Colton's reply, she only kept her eyes glued to the menu, unwilling to answer the man. In the meantime, Colton responded with a silent chuckle despite noticing Nicole's reluctance to react. After placing their orders, the duo waited for the food to be served and neither one of them spoke a word to break the silence. Even after the dishes arrived, Nicole remained quiet as she only kept her head down and ate her meal.

Meanwhile, Colton didn't say anything at all either, only keeping his gaze fixed on the lady. Just when silence was reigning the atmosphere in the room, the duo was suddenly interrupted by a visitor who suddenly opened the door and shrieked, "Collie! What a small world! Like, OMG, I didn't think I'd run into you right here."
